The Cornish Landscape
The West Penwith peninsular is an area of outstanding natural beauty, with its rugged landscape and quality of light. Artists have been drawn here from the 19th century. With the forever changing weather, along with the variable light it continues to bring inspiration to so many. Situated at the most westerly point of Cornwall with sea on three sides, the coastal paths are a haven for wild life and fauna. The dark granite cliffs act as buffers against the wild Atlantic sea. It is an exposed landscape which is amazing in its uniqueness.

Combining water colour techniques and collage
The course will run over three days, with watercolour sessions in the morning painting outside (weather permitting) and collage workshops in the hotel studio in the afternoon.
Sources for painting ideas would be sea, sky, landscape and micro landscapes such as rocks, lichen, seaweed. Then turning these studies into layered collages using handmade papers, inks and dyes.
You will gain knowledge on how use a viewfinder to select compositions, lay down quick colour washes and experiment with different painting techniques to achieve layered colour and texture. These ideas can be taken a step further to make exciting collages or used as a base for a collage.
Susan and Fiona use layering and transparencies as an essential part of their different practises.
